Lighthouse-ing, here I come!

So, the drive down to Uncle Billy’s had a late start due to many factors… but, primarily, because the plan to do my work on Sunday night changed… and it had to be done before I left for Dover.  However, I did not let that stop me.  😀

I stopped at the Dyce Head Lighthouse, http://www.lighthouse.cc/dicehead/history.html, in Castine, ME, on the way down to Dover.

Last Saturday was spent exploring the Bass Harbor Head Light, and it was super neat! This was the 3rd annual ope lighthouse day, unfortunately, I was working the last two years and unable to take advantage.   I was surprised to see so many people waiting in line to visit the lighthouse, but it was well worth the 35 minute weight.  I have been to the lighthouse many times… and taken many others to enjoy it as well, however, it was eye-opening to be within hands reach of the lamp.

Below are some photos from the day…. Views of the lighthouse, Bass Harbor, beautiful gardens, all while waiting in line.  The red lamp photo was taken while in the Lantern Room.

The first week of officially being in Bar Harbor for the season has been so busy… not just with ships, but with activities around town too!

I have had four ship days so far, the Maasdam, Enchantment, and the Eurodam and the Summit is coming in tomorrow.  And my roommate and I traipsed through the Jordan Pond Shore Trail, a whooping 3.3 mile loop and climbed the Bubble Rock Trail, which was about .4 miles each way.  Brisbee and I went on a little jaunt today, through the Shore Path Trail… and she has been changing positions on the couch, but hasn’t actually had the energy to move more than that!

Labor Day 2011

Topic #241:

Do you work too much or too little?

Today is Labor day in the United States, a national holiday for workers. It marks the end of summer, so for many it’s a last holiday out in the sun.

I suppose, if you talk to my husband, he would tell you that I don’t work enough… but, I would just like to kindly point out that he benefits from my salaried, work-from-home, position!  There is certainly a benefit in being able to answer the phone and emails from wherever I happen to be.. even if that means it is sometimes in the middle of a family gathering, and life in the cruise world hasn’t taken a break.

Our dogs benefit in not having to spend 8 hours a day in their crates, and the laundry is done at a time other than the weekend.  We all win!!

The perfect example is today, as I sit outside our lovely rented home in Bar Harbor, ME, with Brisbee exploring the fenced-in yard, a glass of wine by my side, and alternating between writing my post-a-week challenge and answering questions from the Maasdam about Crew Medicals.  Life can’t get much better.  😀

Life will certainly change as these next two months come about, as I will certainly be much busier than I am now.  So, hey, I’ll take the breaks when I can get them!!

I am Posting once a week in 2011!

I’ve decided I want to blog more. Rather than just thinking about doing it, I’m starting right now.  I will be posting on this blog once a week for all of 2011.

I know it won’t be easy, but it might be fun, inspiring, awesome and wonderful. Therefore I’m promising to make use of The DailyPost, and the community of other bloggers with similiar goals, to help me along the way, including asking for help when I need it and encouraging others when I can.

If you already read my blog, I hope you’ll encourage me with comments and likes, and good will along the way.
