House Project: Crown Molding

Posted: July 27, 2011 in House

I’ve lost track of how long we have been working on our house at this point…. but, Richard was hard at work last week putting crown molding up!  He conquered the bedroom, finished the living room and dining area, and we are in need of volunteers to paint more crown for the kitchen and to finish up the back room.

Overall, I am thrilled!  It looks amazing and really finishes the wall off.  It is still in need of some caulking and touch up on the paint, kudos to my hubby!

Furniture!

And the best part of the end of the year — we purchased real furniture!  Super exciting.. although we had to much of the furniture together ourselves, it was well worth all of the money we saved and we got to spend some “quality” time together…

We still have so much work to do… however, it is so nice to have real furniture!

Life over the past month has been very full… full of surprises, full of people, a full house…

Often, I feel like I am in a dream world, where my life is not really my own… we have been married almost 8 months, living in our house for almost 3 months… had a full house of guests for several weekends, hosted our first house party, and we are planning on hosting Christmas at our house this year.  It just seems so bizarre that life this year has flown by SO QUICKLY!  A year ago… I had no idea that this is where I would be now.

What is there to catch up on?  Thanksgiving was fun… we still don’t have any “real” furniture in the house, but I am so lucky, and thankful, that Mom is helping us out.  One of our guest bedrooms is now a replica of the bedroom I left behind… literally.  She gave us the bed, and I still had my furniture from my apartment days… kinda funny to see!  We used her old kitchen table, my kitchen table, and a lovely shade of blue folding table covered in tableclothes.. but we had a great Thanksgiving!  Huge thank you to Mom and my SIL, Kristin, who helped make it all happen.  The turkey was tender, there was plenty of leftovers and dessert finished a great night.

Richard and I went to work on the master bedroom and I love the color I picked.  There was a debate when the color first went up…. it was not a pleasant color, however, after drying it has really started to grow on me.  We, meaning Richard, still has to put the crown molding up, and I need to find something for the walls.  However, it is so nice not having white walls anymore!   The crown molding went up in the office, and it looks amazing.  I am so thrilled, I can’t believe how good it looks!

We had two invites to weddings for friends this month… James and Katie, http://www.12eleven10.com, and Steve and Sandra.  Both brides looked amazing!  Katie chose the Italian Club, which is where church used to be held (we are in a new building now), and it was catered by Wayl of a Time… which is just an amazing menu, all the time.  Sandy’s was at Tradewinds Hotel in St. Pete.  (Which happens to be just down the road from where we got married!)  Mom joined me for Sandy’s wedding as Richard had to work.  Both weddings made me think back to my own… wow.

Company Christmas parties are also in high swing… MPI hosted their party last Friday… the owners catered in at their home and we had a great time with the White Elephant gift exchange, we brought lotto tickets… they were a hit!  My Christmas party will be this Wednesday night, we are meeting my boss and some colleagues in Orlando for a Texas de Brazil dinner.. can’t wait!  Meat on sticks, unlimited salad bar… yummy!

We hosted out first party last Saturday night… It was definitely super fun!  It started about 7pm… and I think I finally fell into bed about midnight… Richard made hamburgers and hot dogs on the grill.  Mom, Kristin and I put a ton of other stuff together… lasagna, spaghetti sauce croissants, cucumber sandwiches, cookies, cakes, punch… I ate so well!  Reid took our Christmas picture- which will be going out in the mail today (can you believe how late I am???) and we had great conversation.  It was fun to show off the house and spend some time with friends.

Lots to do, Christmas shopping has to get finished.  I can’t believe how late I am in doing this… I have never put it off so late!  Pictures to follow soon….

I think that currently, the best (and possibly only) way to describe the state of our new home… is that it is the better part of chaos…

Huge thank you to my Mom who has been coming over on her days off to help me sort through boxes and boxes and boxes of stuff.  I don’t know how all of it fit into the two tiny apartments we each had… It is amazing how life can overwhelm me, without even realizing it!  And amazing as well how much junk is involved.  I can’t get over it.  There is so much stuff here that should just be sent to the curb… mind you, a lot of it is stuff that have happy memories associated from years past… but, nonetheless, someone will be going through it when I die, and they will toss it.  What to do with it all????  Sorry to be a bit morbid… but, it is the truth!

Life has been wonderfully busy.  We are almost done putting my office together… I desperately need to get in and get all the paperwork organized, and convince my darling husband to put some more shelves up in the closet, but we are nearly there!  Below are some before and after pics… to give you a better idea.  But, keep in mind, Richard still needs to put up some crown molding (which has been purchased, and is sitting in the garage) and I HAVE to get the paperwork done.

I succeeded in my first attempt at painting.. and put up the first coat of “Surf Spray” blue paint in the bathroom… I am quite pleased with myself, however not so pleased that I now have to put a second coat on the walls.  My muscles ache, but I am pretty darn proud of myself!!

I will probably be doing the second coat tomorrow (please pray that it is the final coat) and hoping to put up all my decor on Tuesday… VERY excited.  Richard also redid our master bedroom closet, which now looks awesome!  It was originally set up as two single racks.. 8 foot and 4 foot I think… Now, it is definitely more friendly and I can hang a LOT of stuff up!

And buy more stuff too??!?  🙂

More pictures to come as the house starts to look better!

Can you believe it??!?!?!?

I may still be in a state of shock… or maybe it hasn’t sunk in yet because I am not actually home. We own a home… we have a mortgage…oh. my. god. we are real grownups!! haha…

So, now I suppose I have to buckle down and actually pick crown molding, paint colors, a fence… I switched the electric over today, and the auto insurance..Still trying to figure out this Verizon stuff. Holey moley.

But, I will be asking the hubby for pictures. Yay!!

Hello all.

I think I have to apologize for not updating in weeks!! I can’t believe it has been that long. but the time has absolutely flown and life has been super busy.

Last weekend was a wonderful week, Mom came to town and we had a great week! She arrived Monday while the Royal Caribbean Jewel of the Seas was in town and we managed to get on board to have lunch. The ship is super pretty and I am super excited that it will be coming to Tampa next October. Crossing my fingers and hoping that I might have a chance to sail on her… We spent the week wandering around town, shopping, exploring the other side of the island, the Bass Harbor Head Light(house), and the sea wall.. I had to drop her off at the airport on Friday… very sad to make the trip back to Bar Harbor by myself. I really like having visitors!

The biggest news is probably that Richard had the first walk through on the house today! Very exciting! However, it turns out that there are quite a few things that need to fixed. The official closing date is going to be this Wednesday, the 29th. Fingers crossed that everything will continue as planned and the second walk through on Wednesday will be the last and final.

Counting down the days til I am home… and the time is absolutely flying because it is so darn busy up here! As of the last count, 16 ships and 13 pier days left! This year definitely feels like it is going much faster than last year did. However, I am grateful for the opportunity and can’t believe how lucky I am to be on vacation every day, in a beautiful place, even though I have to work…. It’s just an amazing experience.
